Being culturally invisible is probably the most damaging experience a person can have. It informs so much of your life thereafter, and everything becomes a fight. As an artist I feel it’s my job to bring light to the invisible, because what else is there?
I have a number of painting projects on the go to take me through most of this year, I should imagine. In between commissions and larger personal projects, I like to do these often quick, whimsical pieces. Here’s a couple of recent watercolours done in one sitting a piece. It’s good to exercise the imagination […]
Could you tell the difference between a watercolour and an oil painting?
Some here may or may not remember my starting this painting two years ago. It began as an experiment in photorealism, and to see whether I could do it or not. It was a daunting challenge to begin with, and progress was often slow. Last year at the beginning of this pandemic and my year-long […]
Yesterday I said I would try something a little different, by way of giving myself a break from working on my son’s portrait. Much more impressionistic and looser in style, I decided I would recreate one of my digital paintings in oil. I’ve been wanting to practise painting skies and clouds for some time […]
I have been relatively busy as of late, working on two portraits for my husband Bill’s birthday a couple of weeks ago. I’ve also taken the liberty of giving […]
I can be ever the procrastinator when it comes to a lot of things, not least of all executing art projects. I often have a head full of ideas, and as such, some of them can stay on the back-burner of my mind for years, sometimes, before they see the light of day. With this […]
I’m getting the hang of this photo creator software, and have tweaked my own editing templates to achieve a more refined, photographic, though painterly effect on these atmospheric vistas. My latest efforts, examples of which I’m presenting here would indeed be worthy of Turner’s sensibilities, I’d like to think at least. It might be as […]
Happy Monday…to all. It is Monday, right? I don’t know. Every day merges into one. Besides, the day of the week has been irrelevant since I stepped into retirement some years back. Some things just stop being important, and it’s amazing just how quickly you let those things go. Including alarm clocks. Especially alarm clocks… […]
