It’s been a while since I posted a Vlog, so I thought it was time I made another. This time I am reading one of my Snapshot Stories called ‘Desire’ recently posted on IshaiyaFreshlySqueezed. Some of you may have already read it, but now you have an opportunity to listen to me reading it as was intended. I hope you enjoy and I’m looking forward to your comments.

  2. I won’t bother with describing how much in love I am with your voice and your reading. Instead, I’ll simply point to the power and sensuality of your word choices. I particularly loved the last paragraph (though I’m thinking “stanza” since the piece rests in my mind like a pillowed poem). The bits of alliteration were wonderful: “divorce my desire,” “perception powerful enough” and “veins, visceral and full.”

    And, of course, there are the whispered sounds, the F’s, and S’s; the percussive feel of want: “distance is deceptive” and the crescendo of “the deafening fanfare of the stars pulsing” inside your chest. And now, mine.

    1. I feel very honoured that you have left me such wonderful comments Mr.Jones,Jr.
      Actually I’m a little bit blown away, it was a very nice thing to wake up to this morning. As with most of my short stories and poems they are written pretty much in one sitting, with minimal if any editing. That is to say that it’s a very intuitive process that only with reading and re-reading afterwards do I then become aware of any literary structure or patterning in the words that I’ve used. So it’s really nice to hear your objective stance on the alliteration, and the percussive feel of the piece. In fact I’ve only just listened back to my reading this morning, and I have a totally different perspective of it now. It was important to me that I got the sentiment of this piece right, I wanted it to be a true representation of what I was feeling at that moment. So I’m really pleased that you picked up on that, and that you enjoyed so much.
      I can’t get over how Australian I sound, people have told me for years that I sounded Australian, I see what they mean!

    1. You’ve just blown me away with your marvellous comment. I feel a bit humbled really, me… can you imagine?
      You know I didn’t think it was that good really, it took me about ten takes to actually film it all the way through without some gizmo beeping in the background, or me fluffing the words up. So by the end of it I was getting a bit peeved, maybe all that angst got channelled into my reading! lol
      I still think I could do a better job 😉 I’m glad I have that kind of power of you my friend Bwahahahaha!

  5. Wonderful prose. As you were reading the old saying, “Be careful what you wish for” instantly came to mind. We may not always want what we think we want. This has giving me a lot to ponder. Thank you.

      I agree, sometimes the reality of what we think we want might not actually be what we need at all. Sometimes the chase is what provides us with the creative impetus we crave.

        1. Thank you for the wonderful compliment. I’ve been a singer and performer for most of life, intermittently however, but it may have helped a little. I’m glad you enjoyed the reading. It’s a tricky process, in that getting a good reading first time is nigh on impossible! Usually it takes me numerous attempts and a lot of patience.
